Information, Rules and Guidelines for Chili-Bowl 2025

Join Us for the Chili-Bowl!

Mark your calendars for a day of delicious fun! The Chili-Bowl will take place on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, starting at 9AM on the grounds of the Navasota City Hall. This one of the biggest annual fundraisers for The Kiwanis Club of Navasota, providing us with even more opportunities to give back to the youth of Grimes County, and all of our community. Bring your friends and family to create a team and enjoy a warm and friendly competition featuring the best chili recipes locally and from around the state.

What to Expect

  • Registration Fee: This $25 fee can be paid in cash or by check (addressed to "Navasota Kiwanis Club") when you arrive the morning of the event. If you need to pay electronically, please reach out to us. Please note that if you would like to compete in both categories, you will need to pay a fee for each.

  • Two Categories: Whether you are a local cook, a chili enthusiast, or a CASI veteran, there is room for everyone! We will have a CASI Category, and an "Open" Category.

  • Cook Time: CASI competitors will cook between 9AM-2PM, whereas "Open" competitors will cook between 9AM-2:30PM.

  • Awards: The best cooks from each category will receive an award... Bring your A-Game!

How to Participate

If you think you have a great chili recipe, sign up to compete! Whether you're a seasoned chef or a home cook, we welcome all chili lovers to join the fun! Please register to compete HERE. If you are interested in being a judge for the cook-off, please reach out to us.

Judging Categories

There will be two judging categories for the competition, although you can enter both categories if you wish.

  • CASI: This category is for chili that adheres to the rules set by the Chili Appreciation Society International.

  • Open: This category allows for more creativity and variation in chili recipes. Anyone can enter!

GUIDELINES/RULES:

​

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND that we are on the property of City Hall and the Navasota Police Department.

 

1. Alcohol is allowed on the property, but will not be sold or offered. There will be an off-duty officer present throughout the duration of the event. Please drink responsibly.

2. You may show up as early as 7:30AM to begin your setup, but may not begin cooking until 9AM.

​

3. CASI competitors will be judged and presented with awards first, followed by "Open" entries, even if you have entered both categories. CASI Judging and Awards Presentation will occur between approximately 2PM-2:30PM, and these chili entries MUST be submitted by 2PM. This window for "Open" entries will be between approximately 2:30PM-3PM, and these entries MUST be submitted by 2:30PM.

4. Trash cans will be positioned throughout the property. Please make use of these and clean up after yourself before you leave at the end of the event.

​

5. There will be several buckets positioned around the property for cooks to dump grease. Please utilize these. If you dump grease, etc. anywhere else on the property, you may be fined.

​

6. Porta-Potties will be available on-site for competitors to use should the need arise. You may also use the restrooms at the Navasota Visitor Center approximately a block away. Please note that the restrooms at City Hall will not be available during this time.

​

7. Please have your registration fee ready when you arrive, in the form of cash or check (addressed to "Navasota Kiwanis Club"). If you will need to pay electronically, please reach out to us. There will be a registration table at the entrance. Please note that if you are entering both the CASI and "Open" categories, you will need to pay a fee for each.

8. The streets of McAlpine and Farquhar will be closed off around City Hall. The entrance to the cook-off area will be on the Farquhar side, next to the City parking lot. You will enter, drop off everything you will need at your space, and then exit the area to park elsewhere nearby. You may not park in the City Hall parking lot, but there is other parking close-by.

9. The CASI category must follow CASI's Chili Cook-Off Rules, which can be found on their website. The “Open” Category has no restrictions on what kind of chili can be made, but must follow any rules listed here.
